Japanese Hand Painted Blue and White Charger

About the Item

This Japanese hand painted blue and white charger features a plump, cheeky looking bird perched on a branch surrounded by foliage and flowers. In the foreground is a stream and a swallow flies overhead. This would date from the last quarter of the nineteenth century when decorative Japanese pieces were all the rage as the Aesthetic Movement became very popular. As a decorative item it would look equally as good on a Stand as it would hanging on the wall, or in the middle of a table or a sideboard. It measures 425 mm (16.75 inches) in diameter, stands 62 mm (2.5 inches) high and weighs 2.8 kgs (6.1 lbs). There is an impressed signature on the back. It is in very good condition.
