Kitty Rix Wiener Werkstatte Ceramic, 1927, Delightful Couple on a Bench

About the Item

Excellent ceramic designed by well known Wiener Werkstatte artist Kitty Rix. It depicts a young couple on a park bench holding hands. Executed by the Wiener Werkstatte. The figurine measures 5 1/2" height x 5" width x 4" deep. A little dog is seen on the woman’s lap. His hat is hanging from the corner. The work is beautiful and in very good condition. It has had some professional restoration to the back legs of the bench. The underside is impressed with the monogram K.R., WW, and model No. 496. Also seen: “Made in Austria." Kitty Rix (Katharina) (1901-?) was born in Vienna in 1901 and was amongst the most influential female workers at the Wiener Werkstatte alongside Gudrun Baudisch and Vally Wieselthier around 1925. Her drafts show cooperation between her and her co-workers. They are very impressive and show similarities from Wieselthier to Baudisch and Singer. Rix participated at the Paris World Exhibition in 1925. 1929-30, Kitty Rix was represented at an exhibition of Wiener Raumkünstler in the Austrian capital. In 1931 she designed the last ceramic pieces for the Wiener Werkstätte. Kitty Rix probably emigrated in the 1930s due to her Jewish faith.
