Large Mid-Century Modern Handmade Asymmetrical Studio Pottery Vase

About the Item

A unique piece of mid-century modern studio pottery. This large (13 1/2" high), hand-made ceramic vase/wine cooler has a definite modern twist to it with its unexpected, asymmetrical and unusual shape. It manages to surprise the viewer from every angle, just like a true art pottery piece should. The execution of such an elaborate design is a proof of excellent craftsmanship. The same can be said for the glaze. The surface of the vase is covered in a rich, brown, partially iridescent drip glaze. On one side there is equally a drop of green glaze (see photo). Once again, a proof of a skilled artist at work. A unique quality piece. There is a semblance of a marking/signature on the base (see photo), never the less it is illegible. However, the vase has been sourced in France and is most likely French by origin and probably dates from around the 1950/60s. The vase/wine cooler is in very good vintage condition. It has no chips, no cracks or other flaws. No modifications or restorations have been done. There are some very minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. Dimension: height 35 cm/ 13 1/2", maximum width 27 cm/ 10 1/2", diameter base 12 cm/ 4 3/4". Weight: 2800 g/ 6.17 lbs
