About the Item

We're presenting here: Lidded mocha pot, round lidded sugar bowl, six mocha cups with saucers. manufactured, circa 1919 Design: Circle of Dagobert Peche, (circa 1912-15) Dagobert Peche (3rd April 1887 - 16th April 1923) was an Austrian artist and metalworker designer. After having studied in Vienna, Peche made a study trip to Great Britain where he learned to know the technique of black-white design of graphic artist Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898) which influenced his work strongly then. Peche was in Rome, too, during year 1912. After his stay in Rome Peche worked for magazine 'Kunst und Dekoration' (= 'Art and Decoration' / edited in Darmstadt): He was very productive, having created designs for wallpapers, woven fabrics, further for works made by lace bobbins and embroideries, for jewelleries, works of ivory, frames for mirrors, even for furniture pieces, ceramics, paperworks, metal objects and fashion. Climax of Peche's work was the cooperation with Josef Hoffmann (1870–1956) as from the year 1915 when he was engaged to work on behalf of WIENER WERKSTAETTE. - Sadly Dagobert Peche died very early - at age of 36 - in Moedling near Vienna.   Measures: height of mocha pot: 15.0 cm / 5.90 inches height of sugar bowl: 7.5 cm / 2.95 inches diameter of sugar bowl: 9.5 cm / 3.74 inches height of cups: 5.0 cm / 1.96 inches diameter of cups: 5.8 cm / 2.28 inches diameter of saucers: 10.3 cm / 4.05 inches   Hallmarked: At the reverse side there is GMUNDEN CERAMICS MARK (GK) of period as from year 1913-1919 visible. FORM SCHUBERT described by Augarten manufactory: The Classic “SCHUBERT” shape dates back to the Biedermeier era - a period in the 19th century that captured the true spirit of the 'Viennese' style of the time. Floral patterns which had a particularly elegant and delicate look nestled on the round shape were typical of the Biedermeier era. - Especially the decoration “Maria Theresia” - once designed for the hunting lodge of Empress Maria Theresia - is of superb & elegant appearance. The deep green of glaze / varnish - nowadays a very special feature of manufactory - had been an exciting innovation during Maria Theresia's reign. This Augarten Mocha & Tea Set for six persons consists of following parts: - a mocha pot...
