"No Name" Moon Vase by Arina Antonova

About the Item

"No Name" moon vase by Arina Antonova Dimensions: H 33 x D 30 cm Materials: stoneware, porcelain, glaze Born in Sewastopol (Crimea), I was surrounded by the natural variety of the coastal Black Sea views with rocky beaches and picturesque mountain ranges. And it was here that I developed my fascination with the geological diversity of natural materials. Having walked the artist path through the study of drawing and painting, I discovered clay as a material, which became the starting point for my work these last six years. My studio practice focuses on the profound research of natural materials. I consider clay not just to be a functional material for creating objects, but as a holistic subject with its own physicality and vocabulary. During on-going natural sourcing I found a way to physically incorporate the landscape into my work. Experimenting with clay and natural materials is a constant dialog with my surroundings and my desire to merge them with the environment. I have found inspiration in women's pottery tradition, and because of this, most of my works have simple silhouettes with textured surfaces that emphasize qualities of the materials I use, reflecting the process of creation.

Stylish Pair Graduated Brown Glazed Studio Pottery Moon Vases
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
A very well made and stylish pair graduated studio pottery moon vases believed to date from the 20th century and probably originating from the UK. The stoneware vases are lightly potted standing on flat narrow oval shaped bases and both are hand crafted in narrow round moon shape with short narrow funnel necks and slighted everted thicker opening. The vases are decorated in splashed tenmoku brown glazes on a red brown glazed ground with a linear pattern running diagonally across the bodies. Both vases have impressed marks which we have been unable to identify, one with a series of collectors paper labels suggesting possible makers. However we have been unable to verify any of these. The dimensions provided are for the larger vase and the smaller example measures: height 16 cm, width 12.5 cm and depth 4.5 cm. Absolutely stunning display pieces...
