This is a beautiful plate in the Chinese inspired pattern number 4089, produced by the Copeland - Late Spode factory and made of earthenware pottery called Pearl-ware, in the mid 19th century, circa 1850.
This plate is well potted with a recessed rim.
The pattern is transfer printed under-glaze in cobalt blue, then carefully hand painted in bold coloured enamels over-glaze in Gilt Heightened, Rare Pattern Number '4089' which Depicts Oriental Flowers including Bamboo, Peonies and Prunus Blossom in a garden setting with insects.
Similar plates of this period are shown in Steven Smith's book called Spode and Copeland, published by Schiffer.

This is a good quality porcelain coffee can that we attribute to Spode of Staffordshire, England, made during the very early 19th century, George 111rd period, circa 1810.
The coffee can is nominally parallel, with a loop handle having one lower kink, characteristic of the Spode handle. It has a fairly deep foot recess with obtuse corners and is unmarked to the base.
The pattern is one of Spode's transfer printed floral leaf designs in a burnt orange colour around the upper border, all between gold gilt rings with a further gold gilt ring just above the base and hand gilding to the outer handle.

Lucie Rie DBE (1902-95) was one of the most important figures in Twentieth Century ceramics. Born in Vienna, she originally studied at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna under Michael Powolony. Before the war she exhibited at the Paris World Fair in 1925 and 1937, at which she won a silver medal. Of Jewish descent, she fled Austria for Britain in 1938 and spent the rest of her life in London. It is difficult to underestimate the importance of her work in Britain and indeed worldwide. She brought the style of European modernism to this country and inspired a generation of potters to develop that approach. A good friend of leading British studio ceramicist Bernard Leach, she became and internationally acclaimed ceramicist with innovations in both shape and glaze. In 1948 she hired a young Hans Coper and they worked and exhibited together for many years. She also spent some time teaching at Camberwell School of Art. Her ceramic work is now regarded as some of the finest and most important of the last century, its lasting influence assured. After her death her studio was reconstructed and exhibited by the Victorian and Albert Museum. Her work is held in the most important ceramics...

Early Davenport Ironstone Mug Hand Painted Chinoiserie Pattern 659, circa 1815

This is a rare and early stone China (Ironstone) mug which dates to the George 111 period, circa 1815 made by the Davenport factory of Longport, Staffordshire Potteries, England.
The mug is straight sided similar to a coffee can and has a loop handle with an upper thumb rest.
The pattern is number "659", which is one of Davenport's very few chinoiserie patterns.
The bold pattern features striking polychrome enamels of rocks and different flowers all in the Chinoiserie style, hand painted over-glaze in different colours over an under-glaze blue printed outline. The pattern is embellished with good hand gilding. There is also a deep border pattern to the inside rim which replicates the outer mug pattern with sprigs of hand painted flowers.
The mark on the base of the mug is Godden's 1183, a blue printed DAVENPORT STONE CHINA...
