Pair Art Nouveau Tiles Carl Sigmund Luber for J von Schwartz 1896-1906

About the Item

A set of two beautiful art nouveau ceramic tiles in a wooden frame depicting lady's. Each individual tile is approximately 6" x 4.5" and including wooden frame 10" x 8". Designed by Carl Sigmund Luber (1896-1934), Germany. Manufactured by Johann von Schwarz, Nuremberg between 1896 and 1906. The tiles were pressed using modern methods, with the lines of the drawing forming a relief that delimits the color areas. This allows the colors to be filled in quickly and easily. Yet it always appears that parts of the representation, such as the faces of the women, were worked out very carefully by hand. Also striking is the deep gloss of the glazes, completely free of craquelé. Tiles are in excellent condition, one of the wooden frames with a small hole.
