A pair of large Victorian hand painted Minton China Works in Stoke-upon-Trent, England, English tiles based on Scott's popular Waverly Novels, designed by John Moyr Smith. Earthenware tiles, dust-pressed cream body, transfer-printed in black and brown sepia under a clear glaze. This set depicts characters or scenes QUENTIN DURWARD Louis Quentin and Jacqueline John Moyr Smith CH.IV and IVANHOE Death of Bois-Guilbert John Moyr Smith CH.XLIV. John Moyr Smith (12 March 1839 – 1 December 1912) was a Scottish architect and architectural historian later noted as an artist and designer, famed for his work on ceramic tiles.
