Pair of Salvaged Antique Decorative Tiles by American Encaustic Co. of New York
About the Item
This pair of antique tiles are signed by the American Encaustic tile company of New York and date to approximately 1880 and done in a Renaissance Revival style. The tiles are composed of pottery that have been molded and glazed with a cream ground and a brown slip glaze. The tiles depict a male with a lute and a woman in period dress in the other. The tiles are in good structural condition, and show some pitting to the glaze on several high points as presented. Both tiles are signed with impressed markings on the back.
