Pair of Faience Vases with Cover, Olérys and Laugier's Pottery Factory, Moustiers

A Pair of faience vases richly decorated with classical mythological scenes (Cupid and Psyche), flowers, foliage and two grotesque mask handles. The grotesque animal decoration found on pieces made at the Moustiers faïence manufactory of Olérys-Laugier is unique. The pottery factory was found by Joseph Olérys in 1737. He mastered the art of producing high temperature colours, grand feu and went into partnership with his brother-in-law Jean-Baptiste Laugier to found a pottery at Moustiers. Signed with the OL mark of the Olérys-Laugier pottery factory at the inside bottom. It is a combination of both their initials. The vases have no additional painters mark.
