About the Item

Spouted teapot created by Los Angeles artist and designer of the Memphis Group, Peter Shire. Teapot measures: 10" high by 12.5" wide and 5.5" deep. It is signed EXP, 1999. In very good vintage condition, with one small rough area at the teapots rim seen in picture #5. Please visit my gallery for more Shire teapots as seen in my second to the last picture. My last photo of Mr. Shire, seated in his Bel-Air chair, was taken by Mat Hayward. The following was taken and abbreviated from the artists bio on Artnet: Peter Shire American is an American ceramic artist and designer known for his unique, pastel colored mugs, teapots, and furniture. “What I strive for in my work—and this is an ongoing thing, and that is the key element of making a pot is, a volume,” he has explained. Born in 1947 in Los Angeles, CA, he studied ceramics at the Chouinard Institute before starting his own studio in 1972. He continues to live and work in Los Angeles, California. Today, Shire’s works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others.
