About the Item
Exceptional Marcell Goldscheider Art Déco porcelain figurine group:
Japanese girl with her hair plaited into a long, tight plait, wearing a traditional robe - kimono with elaborate floral decoration, belt and thong sandals, sitting sideways on the shell of a large, moving turtle with its head held high, supporting herself on her right hand, in which she holds a Japanese peony.
In Japan, turtles are associated with longevity, immortality and, above all, stability due to their long lifespan. A turtle is considered a good omen and represents Mother Earth, wisdom and protection. In Japanese mythology, the turtle is also associated with the underworld and the souls of the deceased.
An extraordinary porcelain-model by the company Marcell Goldscheider, possibly a unique piece that does not appear in the catalogue raisonné.
