Set Four Dutch Manganese Biblical Pottery Tiles, 18th Century

About the Item

A wonderful set of four antique Dutch ‘Delft’ style manganese tiles hand decorated with biblical scenes probably originating from Rotterdam and dating from the 18th century. The tiles each portrays a different biblical scene set within a simple circular twin line surround and each with a small panel referencing biblical passage from which the scene was derived. The tiles are hand painted in manganese on a white ground and are very well detailed and of good uniform shape and size. The tiles are not otherwise marked. Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market. In good condition with a few small chips and corner loss to one tile.
