About the Item

Wileman & Co. Foley China Five Piece St Andrews Golf Ceramic Set. A set of five ceramics manufactured specially for J. Pirie, St Andrews by Wileman & Co., Stoke on Trent. The set comprises of a cup and saucer, milk jug, mug, flower vase and a match holder in the shape of a top hat. Each piece emblazoned to the front with the coat of arms of the town of St Andrews. The crest shows Saint Andrew on the cross, below him a boar and an oak tree. In olden times, the swamps near the town were inhabited by wild boars, with the Latin phrase 'Dum Spiro Spero' (which translates to "While I breathe, I hope"). To the rear a pair of crossed longnose golf clubs, golf balls and the motto "Far And Sure". The bases marked with Wileman & Co. monogram backstamp, The Foley China, manufactured for J. Pirie, St Andrews. Size shown is for the mug.
