About the Item

Very pretty coloquinte stoneware vase, blue and ochre enamelled with bands and pastilles in relief, in the delicate colours of the ceramist Louis Lourioux. Louis Lourioux was a ceramist active between 1902 and 1930 in Foëcy, in the middle of the Art Nouveau period, who was famous for his stoneware pieces. A contemporary of Lalique and Gallé, he was quickly noticed for the quality and softness of his enamels "à la Decoeur" as well as for his palette of delicate colors and his beautiful mastery of the arts of fire on forms that remained traditional. Imaginative and creative, he creates superb pieces of shapes or decorations inspired by the plant or animal world. He then moved towards a more sober production with geometric and Art Deco decorations and shapes. Like Émile Decœur, he was very much noticed for the quality and variety of his enamels.
