Wedgwood Basalt Black Acanthus Bowl

About the Item

A beautiful Wedgwood basalt bowl in the acanthus pattern, dated 2012, in gold, on the base, and impressed WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND. This bowl was made to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of Wedgwood. It comes in an original gift box which also includes a small book describing the history of Wedgwood porcelain and the story of the Acanthus Bowl in particular. From the booklet: "The Acanthus bowl is the archetype of Josiah Wedgwood's work. With its simple shape and restrained acanthus leaf decoration it brings together a number of strands— the similarity to aged cast bronze, the motifs that reach back two thousand years and more to classical times and a sense of the truth of Josiah's writing that 'the black is sterling and will last forever'". A stunning bowl that would look incredible both in a modern or traditional interior.
