About the Item

Austrian Lovely Ceramics Figurines 'Pleasant Walk' deriving from Wiener Werkstaette, designed by Susi Singer (1895 1965) circa 1920. made circa 1921 Excellently manufactured ceramics item of most lovely shape: A male figurine, it is the father, grabs his children (a boy and a girl) by the hand and guides them. Additionally, a sausage dog (also called 'Dackel' in German-speaking countries) is visible in the foreground. Two trees and a stony bench are attached to backside. Please note: There had been made 103 sculptured figurines based on this model during period 1921-25 - this model has number 5 which means that it is VERY EARLY ! (Bibliography) : Exhibition Catalogue Expressive Keramik der Wiener Werkstätte 1917 - 30 (= Expressionist Ceramics of Wiener Werkstaette), published by Bayerischer Vereinsbank, Munich 1992, Catalogue Number 17 on page 51 and page XX) Impressed mark on reverse side: WW, model number 622/5 and 'Made in Austria' Size: height 16.0 cm (= 6.29 inches) width 14.7 cm (= 5.78 inches) depth 10.2 cm (= 4.01 inches) Designer: Susi Singer (1895-1965) was an Austrian ceramics artist who lived as from the year 1937 in USA. After having studied at School of Fine Arts for Women and Girls in Vienna (she had been taught by Tina Blau, Adolf Boehm and Otto Friedmann). Susi Singer became member of Wiener Werkstaette (she was active there in period from 1917 until 1925). In the year 1922 she became better known in public since the German journal 'Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration' published a selection of Singer's sculptured work for the first time. Susi Singer received a highly esteemed award in 1925 by receipt of the Golden Medal of 'Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modernes' of Paris. She founded her own manufactory at Gruenbach am Schneeberg (Lower Austria) in the same year (1925). Susi Singer emigrated to the USA in the year 1937 / she died in California in 1965. Condition: Excellent (there aren't any damages existing).
