French 1980s Vintage Handmade Cut Crystal Champagne Bucket by Les Grands Ducs

About the Item

French elegance and craftsmanship at its very, very best. Sold in its original box, never used, this French lead crystal champagne cooler is a rare find. The certificate of authenticity and the original label (see photos) from the French maker, Les Grands Ducs in Lorraine, both confirm that this is a handmade and hand cut crystal champagne cooler made in France. The quality could not be any better - this specific crystal contains 24% lead which not only makes it incredible clear and transparent but also gives it its distinctive sparkle (it catches the light much more than ordinary glass). Lead crystal is also noticeably heavier than glass due to its metal content: this cooler weighs an impressive 4.93 kg/ 10,87 lbs. This is a large and eye-catching model from the 1980s, i.e. Hollywood Regency style. It features star and feather shaped cuts, faceted cuts on the rim and on the base... cuts that beautifully reflect the light in every angle. The two handles are delicately curled. Of course made to cool your champagne (or wine) at special occasions (due to its lead content it is wise to avoid direct food contact) but it would also look magnificent with flowers in it. In very good vintage condition. Never been used. No chips, no cracks, no scratches, no other flaws. Sold in its original box. The box shows some minor signs of wear on the outside due to age (see photos). Champagne not included.
