About the Item

19th-century French twisted and hand-engraved crystal ewer with sterling silver mount. The handle is beautifully adorned with stylized acanthus leaves, while the upper part of the mount features intricate chiseling, and the lid is topped with a pomegranate knob. On the front of the spout, there is an exquisite mascaron depicting the face of Neptune. The piece bears the French silver mark and is stamped with the silversmith's initials "HS," likely referring to Henri Soufflot. This ewer is perfect for wine connoisseurs and adds a touch of elegance to any service. It probably bears the mark of Henri Soufflot & CIE, Paris. The hallmark features Henri Soufflot's initials "HS" within a diamond shape, accompanied by a sun and star. The jeweler was located at 89 Rue de Turbigo in Paris. The hallmark, depicting a rising sun above and a star below the letters HS, was registered on April 12, 1884, and was canceled on April 30, 1910.
