About the Item

This monumental and luxurious 101-piece Bohemian crystal beverage service was crafted by the inimitable Ludwig Moser & Söhne glass company in the desirable Diplomat pattern. The service is a specimen in time-honored glass craftsmanship, with each piece being blown, cut and polished entirely by hand from Moser's groundbreaking lead-free crystal. Diplomat features broad, deeply cut stepped panels rooted in Art Deco. Large services of Moser glass are immensely rare, making this complete service perhaps the finest available. Encouraged by the Austro-Hungarian Governments, Ludvik (Ludwig) Moser quickly excelled as a glass artist while serving an apprenticeship under accomplished artist O.J. Mattoni. Through working with the Health Spa at Karlsbad, producing and decorating glassware in which to serve the healing waters found at the spa, Moser quickly acquired a following and demand for his work. By 1857, Moser was able to open his own shop full of bright, glistening chandeliers and mirrors, which further illuminated his glass creations. Moser quickly acquired a noble clientele and began displaying his work at exhibitions around the world. Some of the firms well known patrons include Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Pope Pius XI, and King Farouk of Egypt. Each piece bears the Moser acid-etched mark underneath, circa 1960. Measures: 3 7/8" high to 11 1/4" high.
