17th Century Dutch hand painted delft tile

About the Item

This 17th Century Dutch delft tile features a hand painted figure  of a man carrying a basket, done in blue, to the centre and creeper leaf motifs to the corners. The figure could be carrying a basket of eels, which were a delicacy in the Netherlands. It measures 130mm  (5 inches) square and is 13 mm (.5 of an inch) thick. As to be expected there are a few chips to the edges, some crazing and small ares of the glaze appear to have blistered in the kiln. It dates from the period 1620-40.
