About the Item
Decorative wall plaque from the renowned Henriot faïencerie in Quimper, Brittany, dating to circa 1880. Measuring 20.25 inches wide by 10.5 inches high, this elongated oval plaque is hand-painted with a vibrant Breton folk dance scene, featuring villagers in traditional costume celebrating outdoors to the sound of musicians, while others look on. Above the scene, a finely detailed armorial crest inscribed with “AMAVIE” lends a noble touch, framed by intricate cobalt blue scrollwork on a cream ground with ochre edging.
Henriot Quimper, established in the late 17th century, became one of France’s most celebrated faience producers, known for its distinctive regional themes and hand-painted craftsmanship. This piece bears the Henriot Quimper signature and the model number 155 on the reverse, along with its original wire for wall display.
A superb example of antique Breton pottery, this plaque reflects both the cultural heritage and artisanal skill associated with 19th-century French ceramics. Excellent condition with only minor wear. Ideal as a collector’s piece or a decorative focal point in a French country interior.

This vibrant antique ceramic platter was crafted in Brittany, France, circa 1920, and exemplifies the lively spirit of Quimper faïence. Oval in shape with a scalloped rim, the tin-glazed earthenware piece is hand-painted with an elaborate Breton scene depicting villagers in traditional costume gathered in joyous celebration, dancing, conversing, and playing music in a lush countryside setting. Their colorful garments and expressive gestures convey the warmth and festivity of rural life in turn-of-the-century France.
