Faience Tromp L'oeil Jug in the Form of a Parrot, Proskau Poland

About the Item

Proskau Faience Tompe L'oeil Jug in the form of a Parrot, Circa 1770. The European tin-glazed earthenware tromp l'oeil jug is in the form of a parrot with a removable head forming the cover. The parrot was made in what is now Poland at Proskau. The parrot has a puce coloured breast with green and yellow feathers on his back and polychrome feather to the side. The handle of the jug is formed by a brown stem of a plant with the terminals as green leaves. Reference: "Early European Porcelain & Faience as collected by Kiyi and Edward Pflueger", Catalogued by Hugo Morley-Fletcher, Volume II, Page 182, for a very similar example illustrated in colour. Mark in manganese with letters D P. Prószków ([ˈpruʂkuf], German: Proskau) is a town in Opole County, Opole Voivodeship in southern Poland. (Ref: ny9108/naii)
