Large Blue and White Dish with Floral Still Life Delft, 1650-1680
About the Item
The dish has a wide-spreading flange and is painted in blue with a still life in a panelled border. A bottle vase with various flowers is in the foreground before a low rectangular container on feet, filled with a rocky landscape. To the left of the container is a tall, cylindrical vase with grassy plants. Two butterflies and an insect fly in the sky. The well and flange are divided into eight wide and eight narrow panels. The wide panels are painted with four different motifs: two types of flower, and two types of a leaf on a fan within scrolls. The narrow panels are filled with a knot.
Dimensions: diameter 34,2 cm / 13.46 in.
Similar examples: The Dutch Terra Verde Collection contains a variant with a bottle vase and basket. A second variant is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. A third variant excavated in Haarlem is depicted in Baart.
