About the Item

A French faïence Asparagus drainer / server with an inset well cover, from Saint Amand et Hamage, circa 1930s. Glazed in the Orchies region signature green, the server is modeled on a group of asparagus, tied and lying side by side. There is a fitted square cover with two finger holes for lifting. The cooked asparagus would drain into the well below. The platter is molded in one piece and sits on a raised rear footing. Suitable for serving any food that does best not sitting in the cooking liquid. Saint-Amand-les-Eaux is in northern France. Pottery from this region was been produced under the names, Faïence et Porcelaine St. Amand-Orchies-Hamage or Manufacture de Faïence Moulin des Loups-Hamage. The Saint-Amand factories closed their doors in the early 1950s. Plates for creating a service are offered separately. Measures: 14.5 in. L x 8.5 on. W x 1.75 in. H Excellent condition, beautiful color.
