About the Item

First Period Worcester Underglaze Blue Porcelain Pine Cone Pattern Dinner Plates, A Set of Twelve, Circa 1770. From a collection of Pine Cone pieces including a soup tureen and stand, dishes in sizes, basin and Junket dish. The set of large dinner plates are printed in blue with butterflies, pine cones, fruit, flowers and foliage. The shaped rims have smaller flower sprays. The central design is a composition of Rococo and Chinoiserie influences, blending exotic and naturalistic motifs. It is skillfully transfer-printed with a dense arrangement of stylized pine cones, various fruits, and lush flowers, all interwoven with delicate foliage. The scene is brought to life by the inclusion of several fluttering butterflies, adding a sense of movement and grace. The gently scalloped rim is adorned with smaller, complementary floral sprays, creating a harmonious and balanced design. Diameter: 9 5/8 inch diameter x 1 1/4 inches high. Mark: Shaded crescent marks in underglaze blue Provenance: Private Maine Collection, Jean and Joseph Connolly Collection, Montréal.
