Golden Harvest: Botanical Naturalism in Derby Porcelain This exquisite set of six plates is a superb example of the Derby Porcelain Factory at its late 18th-century peak, capturing the refined taste for botanical naturalism that defined the Georgian era. Derby Porcelain Factory, Pattern 126, Circa 1790 Derby, England Produced during the prosperous "Duesbury II" era, these plates showcase the superb craftsmanship for which Derby, a holder of the Royal Warrant, was celebrated. Each plate features a meticulous, hand-painted central arrangement of autumnal fruit—including luscious grapes, plums, and apples—set within an elegant, heart-shaped gilt border. The rich, high-fire yellow rim is a luxurious frame, further enhanced by a continuous polychrome leafy band and copious gold highlighting. This lavish combination of rich color and gilt decoration was the height of dining fashion, intended for the most exclusive dessert services. A Direct Link to the Artist: The plates bear the factory’s puce crossed batons and "D" mark, along with the pattern number "126." This number is a direct reference to the renowned factory painter William Longden, who was known for his fine, naturalistic brushwork.
