A Majolica glazed Palissy style earthenware seaweed and shells oyster plate made by George Jones, Stoke-on-Trent, circa 1870. Six pink edged scallop shells surround a central sauce well and rest on the back sides of smaller shells. Raised green seaweed tipped in red is hand-painted, spiral shells are molded on the front of the plate. The red iron oxide painters number on the verso. Measures: 9 in diameter x 1 in height Some expected darkening to the lighter areas, an overall fine craquelure.
