- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Very good antique conditions, nice and clean with the expected minimal wear and kiln effects, in the making. One plate has a sliver to the rear footing as shown, not affecting the seating of the plate. No losses to the other plates.

A black on white transfer printed floral platter in the Flosculous pattern, William Ridgway & Co., Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire England, circa 1830-1854.
A gently scalloped black-printed platter in an unusual borderless pattern. Alternating floral sprays extend outward — from a three part scroll motif in the center — up the well and onto the rim of the plate. The term ‘flosculous’ means having flowerets or composite-flowered. This stylized pattern feels very modern.

Dating to the French Restoration period, this transfer-printed plate is glazed in the distinctive brilliant canary yellow for which the Creil and Monterau potteries were known. Printed in the neoclassic style, the image shows a man and woman in a romantic landscape, walking in front of a house. The man holds a long pole and smokes a pipe, the woman is holding a pitcher and a bowl. A wide, stylized floral border makes up the rim of the plate.
