About

The precious white statuary marble has always been the one preferred by sculptors and artists for their artworks. Known throughout the world, this beautiful marble has been used since Roman times in sculptural art for its luster and compact structure, characteristics that make it perfect to be worked with a chisel. Pieruga proudly creates elegant accessories and complements in marble through artisanal processes, bringing into dialogue ancient techniques of sculpture with advanced technologies. 100% handmade in Italy. Our mission is a clear signal of opposition to the enormous waste that occurs in the extraction and processing of large blocks of marble, tons of material are discarded and thrown, in disfigurement to the generosity of our mountains. Rediscovering the ancient art of manual sculpture we give new life to even the smallest fragment of marble, bringing to light its millenary beauty that is lost in more than 2000 years of architecture and sculpture. Pieruga marble is a new brand by Barberini & Gunnell. The Atelier Barberini & Gunnell was founded by the architects and designers Francesco Barberini and Nina A. Gunnell The artworks by Barberini & Gunnell are regularly shown at international art fairs, such as PAD London, PAD Genève, PAD Monaco, Salon Art and Design New York, Art Miami. Marble is a natural material, every piece is unique as each marble block is different in veins and color shades. All of our creations are handmade by Italian artisans and can slightly vary in shape and size. This is to be considered as a guarantee of a handmade object. All Pieruga objects are made of precious and natural marbles and onyx. Marble is sensitive to acid-based liquids, especially a prolonged contact with substances such as wine, lemon, vinegar, fruit juices, cola and alcohol can stain the surface. Cleaning should be carried out with a soft sponge, water and neutral detergent. Do not use metallic or abrasive sponges, do not wash in the dishwasher, do not use in the microwave. The color of the marble after washing can undergo variations due to the humidity trapped in the surface’s micro-pores. Once fully dried it will regain its original color. The brass inlays tend to oxidize over time, to make them return to shine again use a soft cotton pad soaked in a solution of water and traditional Marseille soap, gently rub over the brass inserts and rinse the surface thoroughly. We are against the use of chemical products, all Pieruga objects are processed and polished through long manual processes without the use of polishing liquids.

Dear friends and valued clients, together, we are facing uncertain times. The global covid 19 pandemic is affecting all of us: our families and friends, businesses, our way of life. Facing real-life challenges is what we do on a daily basis…. designing, creating, inventing, being positive and being stronger together. Beauty, inspiration and uplifting each other are universal human needs. Please know that our team at the atelier is working through the crisis, following the safety and sanitary measures taken, available to assist you with any questions. We will continue to create, design and ship orders regularly. We want to send our greatest support to all those who are unfortunately facing the contagion and to all the medical and hospital staff working strenuously to deal with this crisis. Thank you! Francesco and Nina The Atelier Barberini & Gunnell was founded in Ancona by the architects and designers Francesco Barberini and Nina A. Gunnell as the result of a passion followed for a long period of time, creating objects far from the industrial reality; one-off pieces and limited editions. The artworks by Barberini & Gunnell are presented at international art fairs such as Art Basel Design//Miami, Art Miami, PAD London, PAD Monaco, PAD Généve, Salon Art + Design NY. Barberini & Gunnell also create for private clients and collectors such as the architect Peter Marino, who selected the bench 'Get Lost!' for the new DIOR flagship store in London.
