Set of 12 "Paris Assiégé" 19th Century dessert Plates by Creil & Montereau

About the Item

These 12 plates in white earthenware are decorated with a colored story about "Paris assiégé" (* Besieged Paris) pattern. Twelve plate, twelve life scenes during the siege of Paris (1870-1871) an episode of the Franco-Prussian War: a dog and his master, two people chatting in front of a butcher shop, a soldier on horseback, a soldier knocking at a Lady's door, etc. On the back of each plate, a little note explains the scene with humor. All dinner plates are signed on the front "Ch. Hamlet" and "Draner" and each is numbered from 1 to 12. At the back, they're stamped with the Creil & Montereau mark. Good condition. 20.5 cm diameter. Creil & Montereau was a French earthenware manufactory created in 1840 with the fusion of two rival firms: Creil (created in 1774) and Montereau (created in 1745). This earthenware (and porcelain) manufactory was famous for its technique of engraved image decal and for having produced the famous "Rousseau" Service after Felix Bracquemond engravings.

Dessert set for 12 people "Le Parisien" by Creil & montereau. 12 different exquisite scenes of children playing with fruits. It is stamped on the back with Creil & Montereau marks and Le Parisien identification. Le Parisien is the story of a little boy discovering country life, designed by the French artist and painter Antoine-Albert Richard (1845-1921) named "Froment-Richard".
