About the Item

An exceptional set of twelve hand-painted cabinet plates by Royal Worcester, England, dated 1926 and each signed by the artist E. Phillips. These plates exemplify the height of early 20th-century English porcelain artistry, featuring elaborate raised gilt decoration over a soft ivory ground, with intricate scrolling and foliate motifs radiating from a central medallion. Around the borders, hand-painted floral reserves display finely detailed bouquets in rich jewel tones—pinks, purples, and blues—set within cartouches framed in burnished gold. The level of detail and craftsmanship reflects Royal Worcester’s most luxurious productions of the interwar period. The backs are stamped “Royal Worcester, Made in England” and marked for Martins, Detroit, Mich, a prestigious American retailer of fine English porcelain, with additional painted pattern numbers and artist marks. These plates were likely intended for display or formal dessert service, combining Edwardian elegance with Art Deco-era refinement.
