Stoneware plate with fine smear glaze by Ridgeway Potteries, c. 1830

About the Item

Putty colored stoneware plate with fine smear glaze. The impressed surface decoration centers on a Tudor rose with laurel leaf circlet, radiating acanthus leaves, and 16 compartmentalized scrolls, each featuring a single Tudor rose. The reverse is impressed with the knotted rope icon of the Ridgeway Potteries. A narrow chip or firing flaw appears on the rim. Impressed on the underside: Ridgeway Potteries knotted rope icon over the number 4 England, circa 1830.
