About the Item
A green Uranium glass citrus reamer or juicer set with a bottom pitcher showing volume measurements, attributed to US Glass Company Glass – circa 1930s.
Uranium reamers and juicing sets typically have a greenish hue and glow brightly under ultraviolet light, such as a blacklight. They contain a small amount of uranium oxide, causing the fluorescence.
These reamers are designed to extract juice by hand from citrus fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges. The fruit is cut in half and twisted on the reamer. The juice collects in the base.
Sometimes known as the Handy Andy Juicer, this juicer consists of two pieces, a bottom pitcher with a tear-drop handle, pouring lip, and increment markings on two sides showing both pints and ounces. The markings measure four, eight, twelve, and sixteen ounces, and quarter, half and three-quarter pints.
The reamer sits snugly into the top rim of the pitcher and is slotted for the juice to flow while the seeds and pith are filtered out.
Ideal for juicing a lemon for a recipe or for squeezing fresh orange juice.
Depression-era glass reamers are sought after by collectors due to their unique glow and vintage appeal.
They work beautifully and look terrific in the kitchen.
