About the Item

The “BÖLGEBLICK” won second prize in the pressed glass category of the 1932 KARHULA-IITTALA glass competition. It was then launched as the “AALTO” series in 1934 and went into production. In Finnish, “AALTO” means “wave, undulation, or ripple,” and the concentric circle design reflects both the waves and the artist’s name. The concentric circle design enables stacking, and also makes bubbles less noticeable, which was a consideration at the time when glassware for everyday use was inexpensive and often contained bubbles. These are small tumblers with a capacity of 40 ml, produced for only three years from 1936 to 1938. One of the pieces exhibited at the 1936 Milan Triennale, where it won a gold medal. *There are a few small chips on the bottom edge, but it is in good condition with no noticeable damage. Due to the quality of the product at the time, there are some bubbles and wrinkles.
