About the Item

1930s Art Deco “Jr. Skyscraper” Beer Stein – Stone’s Grill, Ohio This rare 1930s Art Deco beer stein hails from Stone’s Grill, formerly known as Picken’s Palace Restaurant in Ohio. Famous for serving the “Tallest Glass of Beer”, Stone’s custom glass steins became legendary among patrons. This particular “Jr. Skyscraper” version is embossed with a striking Art Deco skyscraper motif, featuring multiple streamlined high-rises between bold lettering that reads “Jr. Skyscraper” at the top and “Stone’s” at the bottom. The sculpted relief of the buildings mirrors the soaring verticality and geometric symmetry that defined the Machine Age aesthetic of the Art Deco period. Stone’s Skyscraper Grill was a celebrated Ohio establishment known for its impressive beer servings and lively atmosphere. A 1938 advertisement for the restaurant—pictured in the listing but not included for sale—highlighted the Skyscraper beer steins as a major draw for customers. These oversized, custom glass mugs were designed to reflect the architectural ambitions of the era, when skyscrapers such as the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building symbolized modernity, innovation, and progress. The Wolfsonian Art Deco Museum in Miami has even featured a Stone’s Skyscraper Stein as part of its rotating collection, further cementing its place in Art Deco and American design history. This Jr. stein is in extremely good condition with no chips or flaws to note. Please review the measurements as this stein is the rarer small size offered by Stone's, not the large version.
