Box measure: 129.50 mm by 44.4 x 57.1 mm (5.01 x 1.75 x 2.25 Inches). Bottles measure: Each one is 31.71 mm by 22.8 mm by 44.4 mm (1.25 x 0.90 x 1.75 Inches) Cristóbal Balenciaga was born in the Basque region of Spain, and had the choice of becoming a fisherman like his father, or a priest like his uncle. But Cristóbal wasn’t having any of that because he desired to work with clothing, in the footsteps of his dressmaker mother. Completely self-taught, he opened his salon, Balenciaga y Compañía, in 1918, and almost from the word go royalty and aristocrats were beating a path to his door. Like so many, Balenciaga fled the Spanish Civil War, and moved his HQ to the world’s fashion capital of Paris, in 1937. A year later, he opened his beautiful neoclassical flagship store at 10 Avenue George V, which you can still visit today. LE DIX is the first fragrance launched by Balenciaga and was introduced in 1947 as a gentle, classic floral scent for evening. Le Dix was named after the address of Balenciaga’s Parisian showroom, Le Dix (No. 10), and is a magnificent ambery floral. Delicate, powdery, dark violets can be felt through a sparkling veil of bergamot and lemon, giving the main motive to the whole composition. The opulent heart opens with rose and ylang-ylang and, after a while, their strong floral scent is toned down by aldehydes. Subtle vanilla dominates in the base bringing an interesting accord into this classic composition. The nose behind this fragrance is Francis Fabron. LA FUITE DES HEURES is the second fragrance by Balenciaga, launched in 1948 after the debut Le Dix. The perfume was created by Germaine Cellier and dedicated to the fashion of the house. It is a formula of Provençal herbs and jasmine that create a perfume of great radiance and tenacity. The fragrance is developed with herbal and green notes, anise, aldehydes, flowers that are dominated by jasmine, thyme, violet, woody tones, leather, amber. Yet the suave jasmine and ylang ylang glory with sweet accents of light amber in the base is lovely. The piquant herbs of anise and thyme and greens note of vetiver along with an aldehydic vibrance mellow significantly after the opening, when they give way to the more tenacious woody and musky elements. QUADRILLE opens with a nose tingling blast of deep, boozy plum wine with significant musk and mossy green oakmoss support. Moving to the early heart the boozy plum recedes to a supporting role, leaving the animalic musk and mossy green oakmoss as co-stars with hints of dulled peach fruit and cardamom spice. As the composition moves further through its mid-section, the musk fades as the oakmoss switches gear, now featuring its powdery facet while maintaining some of its prior mossy green nature. During the late dry-down the composition stays linear with the gentle powdery oakmoss remaining almost through the finish, as hints of earlier obscured jasmine show up towards the end of the composition's development.” Quadrille is a classic scent of 1950's and is classified as a spicy chypre. Sparkling fresh fruity notes open the composition: plum, peach and lemon. Jasmine in the heart note blend together with warm spices of clove and cardamom. The base is very sensual, composed of amber and musk. The perfume was created in 1955. Note: Very rare to still see as a set in their original box.
