Burtles, Tate & Co Victorian 1890's Vaseline/Uranium Glass Pulpit Vase

About the Item

A stunning Victorian 1890's British glass "jack-in-the-pulpit" vase. Consists of a rounded, opalescent, crimped rim, and tubular yellow green glass flower holder. An almost identical vase is shown in the book Victorian Decorative Glass by Mervyn Gulliver, page 80, identified as made by Burtles, Tate & Co from England. The design drawing is also shown in the catalogues section of the book on page 227. Made in vaseline/uranium glass, which glows bright green in UV light. The body of the vase was made using a mould, and a moulding seam can faintly be seen at the back of the vase.
