About the Item
This exquisite vase and matching set of 11 juice glasses are a stunning example of the Catalina design by the Consolidated Glass Company of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Designed by the visionary Rubin Haley—best known for his bold and avant-garde Ruba Rombic line—Catalina embodies the geometric elegance and streamlined aesthetics that defined the 1920s and 1930s.
Unlike the jagged, cubist-inspired Ruba Rombic, the Catalina design embraces a softer approach focused on craft. The wavy, flowing texture of the glass reflects the Art Deco movement’s fascination with movement and form, while the rich violet hue aligns with the era’s love for striking, sophisticated colors. This design has a handmade quality, showcasing the craftsmanship of Consolidated Glass artisans. As a result, each piece exhibits unique variations in texture, color, and size, along with occasional bubbles within the glass—a testament to its authenticity and artisanal quality.
The vase is particularly striking with its sculptural presence and deep purple violet color. Notably, the base is not entirely flat, causing a slight natural movement—an original characteristic of the piece rather than a flaw. The set as a whole is in excellent condition, preserving the beauty and elegance that made Catalina one of Consolidated Glass Company’s most desirable designs.
