Coronation of King George vi and Queen Elizabeth Glass Tankard

About the Item

Intricate engravings symbolic of the English monarchy decorate this limited edition glass tankard commemorating the 1937 coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. On one side, the king's crowned monogram is framed by oak and thistle foliage and inscribed with the dates of his coronation and accession. The reverse celebrates George VI's place within the lineage of the Stuart Kings, the historic Kings of Scotland, with the inscription, "The Stuart Descent from Robert The Steward, 1371 to King George VI, 1936." A silver token displaying the royals in profile is embedded into the base of the glass, completing this impressive tribute to one of the most important coronations in the history of the British Empire. Numbered 71/250 and signed "T. Goode & Co. Ltd. London, 1937" 6" diameter x 5 3/4" high.

    Amazing Rene Lalique presentation plate - Mouettes - Commissioned by The City of Paris to be given to King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother) in 1938 on the occasion of their first and only state visit to Paris. The only examples of this plate still reside in Clarence House -The last home of the Queen Mother -and a tiny number of display examples that were sent to the Rene Lalique shops (to show off and commemorate the presentation) -None were ever available for sale -this example came from The Breves Gallery in London -It was originally part of a window display in 1938 and was acquired from the grandson of an employee (who was given it - as they were not allowed to sell it). In addition there is an original Rene Lalique press release photograph of the presentation showing The King and Queen with various unknown French and English dignitaries (The man bowing may be President Lebrun of France) -The super rare original photograph is stamped on the reverse 'Reproduction Interdite' (Reproduction forbidden) -The plate is listed in the Lalique book by Marcilhac Page 698 (black edition) -under 'pieces unclassified' A.
