Extensive English Faceted and Enameled and Gilt Glass Service, circa 1815

About the Item

Delicately painted in translucent enamels with mythological scenes, classical busts, still and fruit life, land and seascape scenes. The gilt borders variously painted with classical leaf motifs. Comprising 10 double lipped bowls (H 4") (5 with landscapes and 5 with seascapes), 12 bowls (H 3.75") all with mythological scenes with Tritons and Neriads and sea monsters, 14 water goblets (H 4") all with cupids in various poses and guises, 22 stemmed wines (H 5.25") all with mythological figures in various pursuits and poses including Hercules and his labors and Hercules wrestling Antaeus, 18 stemmed wines (H 4.75") all with portraits of Caesars and other luminaries (inc. Valens, Ptolemy, Saul, Alexander, Marc Antony etc.) identified on each glass, 17 liquors (H 3.5") with portraits of children, angels and cupids, 8 large stemmed water goblets (H 5.5") with identified portraits of Ganymede, Harmonia, Sol, Pomona, Adonis etc., 14 sherries (H 4") with still life of fruits and flowers, 22 sherries (H 4.5") with portraits of Rosamond, Andromache, Hagar, Zara, Helen, Cleopatra etc. (14 of which are named). Approximately 138 total pieces.
