French Early Art Nouveau Emile Galle First Period Enamel Vase, circa 1890

About the Item

A very rare Emile Galle, signed, 1st Period vase - enamelled in bold poster colours; Red, Yellow, Blue and Black. The design represents stylised foliage and flowers. Signed 'E Galle Nancy' in black enamel to the base (see last image). The low vase has a pinched neck and a flared crown top. The term 1st period related to the time before Emile Galle managed to produce cameo glass- He specialised in high quality glass enamelled in bold colours and stylised designs - like this wonderful vase. 1st period pieces are many times rarer than the later Cameo pieces and are much more sought after Emile Galle was probably the greatest glass maker of all time and one of the founding father's of the Art Nouveau movement.
