About the Item

Glass vase by Andre Thuret Circa 1950 in perfect condition Signed at its base Origin France. French glass artist André Thuret (1898-1965) began his career in chemistry with scientific experiments exploring the molecular changes in the heating and cooling of glass. These experiments led him, at the age of 26, to collaborate with French glass master Henri Navarre to execute his first glassworks in 1924. Thuret created biomorphic, fluid forms of clear, thick glass that captured the molten movement of the medium —a departure from the delicate, dainty glassware being produced at the time. For Thuret, each creation was a new experiment executed by hand and, as such, no two are exactly alike. Thuret was part of many important design associations throughout his career including: Le Salon d’Automne, La Societe des artistes décorateurs and the UAM. The underside of this vase is etched with his signature “ANDRE THURET.”
