Murano "Albarelli" Italian Pair of Bottles with Lid Blue Blown Glass

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Delicious and harmonious pair of blue blown glass bottles with lid; the two bottles were made in a magical, fascinating, and artistic place, an artisan furnace in Murano, while the glass was being melted in the furnace, cobalt pigment was added to give the glass its dark turquoise color, extracted from the furnace, the molten glass was mouth-blown with a special blowpipe by a master glassmaker, who hot-molded it with special tools to give it the desired shape, the object was removed from the pipe that was used to blow it with special scissors (see the 14th photo), then put in the oven of the tempera where it cooled for many hours; Then, completely without heat, it was taken to the grinding department where expert grinders proceeded with grinding, diamond wheel finishing and finally polishing. These bottles are known as "albarelli" (in English they can be called "majolica jar"); this term refers to a container used in ancient pharmacies to contain spices, herbs, ointments, and medicinal powders; the "albarello" was born in Italy in the medieval period, in the times of Petrarca, Dante and Boccaccio, it was made of majolica and decorated with elaborate designs of flowers, volutes, Greek, Gothic leaves and masks, in an explosion of colors; in Murano, they wanted to make a more stylized and elegant version, for the refined Venetian furnishings, so it was that the "albarelli" in blown glass were born, aesthetically less aggressive than those in majolica, but certainly more sophisticated and elegant. Our "albarelli" are not medieval, but they are certainly the fruit of the artisan and secular wisdom of the Master glassmakers of Murano. They were produced in Murano between 1949 and 1950. Measures the large D.cm.15, H.cm.42, the small D.cm.9, H.cm.32. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
