About the Item

Murano Glass Trumpet-Form Chalice with Torchon Stem, circa 1960s An exquisite and vibrant example of Mid-Century Murano glass artistry, showcasing the mastery of Venetian glassblowers. This elegant, tall-stemmed chalice, often referred to as a coppa in Italian glass terminology, is a striking piece dating from the 1960s. It beautifully combines several iconic and technically challenging Murano glass techniques. Features: • Bowl Decoration: The flaring, trumpet-shaped bowl is masterfully decorated in the vetro a fasce technique, featuring alternating wide stripes of brilliant 'Acquamare' (Aquamarine) blue and clear glass. Within the clear sections, a fine reticello (netted or filigree) lattice work in delicate white lattimo glass can be seen, adding a sophisticated textural contrast and internal depth. The scalloped rim is finished with a thin aquamarine blue line. • Stem (Gambo): The sculptural, baluster-form stem is crafted using the challenging torsion or torchon technique, featuring a swirling ribbon of transparent glass infused with brilliant gold foil (avventurina or foglia d'oro). This double-knobbed stem is a hallmark of high-quality decorative Venetian stemware, providing both elegance and stability. • Foot (Piede): The circular foot complements the stem, utilizing the gold-flecked avventurina technique, which gives the base a shimmering, textured, and slightly crackled appearance. This rare and eye-catching chalice would make an unparalleled addition to a serious collection of Italian design, or serve as a dramatic focal point in any contemporary or classic interior.
