About the Item

Order of Odd Fellows Large Rummer, c1840 The Oddfellows were founded around 1730 or so. The perceived wisdom is that this was a guild for craftsmen and tradesmen who were not already represented by existing livery companies, such as " The Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers" and Pattenmakers, for those who made wooden shoes. You will note that many of the symbols are shared with the Company of Masons. Additional information: Period : Victoria Origin : England Colour : Clear Bowl : Bucket with slice cut thickened base. Engraved armorial for the Oddfellows. An hourglass, cross keys, beehive and paschal lamb in the four quadrants. The crest is an open hand with polished heart. This is supported by the Madonna with child and Saint Clement on the dexter side. Opposite a floral edged cartouche engraved with monogram SAM Stem : capstan with large medial flattened ball knop Foot : Low conical Pontil : Polished Glass Type : Lead Size : H 17.6 cm Diameter bowl : 11.5 cm Diameter foot: 10 cm Condition : Excellent, no chips or cracks Restoration : None
