About the Item
This exquisite silver-mounted bowl in the Panel pattern from the Hawkes Company is a stunning example of the skill and artistry of American Brilliant Period cut glass. The Panel pattern is one of the most outstanding patterns of the Brilliant Period, and its genius lies in its remarkable depth when viewed from above. Hawkes himself designed the pattern and patented it in 1909. Rimmed with a lacy border of lustrous sterling silver from the famed Redlich & Co., this stunning bowl is a triumph of American Brilliant Period craftsmanship and design.
Started in 1880 by Thomas G. Hawkes, the Hawkes Company was making glass for the White House by 1886. In 1889, two of their cut glass patterns won the Grand Prize in the Paris Exposition. This coveted prize not only brought prestige to Hawkes, but for the first time, American glass gained a firm place on the international scene. By the 20th century, American cut glass was world-renowned, recognized for its superiority and advanced glass-making methods, with Hawkes providing some of the finest and most inspired pieces of the period.

Delphos Salad Bowl Set by Libbey
By Libbey Glass Co.
Located in New Orleans, LA
Comprised of a platter and serving bowl, this incredibly intricate salad set was crafted in the desirable Delphos pattern by the Libbey Glass Company. Stunning fields of diamonds are cut with immense precision, making this pattern one of the most dazzling American Brilliant Period cut glass patterns ever created. A banana bowl adorned in the Delphos pattern is featured in Rarities in American Cut Glass by Herbert Wiener and Freda Lipkowitz on page 19.
The bowl and platter bear the Libbey acid-etched mark.
The Libbey Glass Company was the foremost and most respected producer of the best cut glass of the Brilliant Period. From its very inception, the Libbey Glass Company assumed and maintained a prominent position, considered second to none in the production of premium American glass. The company was founded in 1818 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was known as the New England Glass Company. In 1878, William L. Libbey leased the company, changing the name to the New England Glassworks, LLC, Libbey and Sons, Proprietors. His son, Edward Drummond Libbey, took over the operation in 1883 and, in 1888, he closed the Massachusetts factory and moved to Toledo, Ohio, renaming the company the Libbey Glass Company. Libbey became the largest cut glass factory in the world during the Brilliant Period (1878-1915). The company's incredible exhibit at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair propelled Libbey's world-wide reputation. They brought 130 of their most skilled craftsmen to blow and cut glass, awing spectators by demonstrating the complicated and precise process of transforming raw molten glass into dazzling works of art. Today, examples of Libbey cut glass...

Chinese Export Silver Bowl and Spoon
Located in New Orleans, LA
This delightful and extremely rare spoon and bowl pair exemplifies the remarkable artistry of Chinese export silver. Chinese silver pieces are renowned for their exceptional quality and unique designs, and the majority are entirely hand crafted. Today, many of these elaborate designs are housed in major museum collections, and remain a rarity on the market.
Beginning in the 18th century, silver workshops in China specialized in the manufacture of silver export pieces for Western audiences. Typically bearing motifs that were popular amongst Americans and Europeans such as dragons, bamboo and floral patterns, these charming pieces were all beautifully handcrafted with the utmost skill. Today, important pieces of Chinese export silver such as this one can be found in many of the major museum collections, and are highly valued amongst collectors.
The bowl boasts a fluid, undulating rim exquisitely engraved to depict bamboo, a motif which continues throughout the bowls body. Accompanying the bowl is a matching silver spoon, its handle intricately modeled as a vine with floral buds climbing upwards to its bowl, which seems to bloom with lovely applied buds and flowers.
The spoon features the mark of Wing Fat, a firm active in Hong Kong from 1875-1930 and Sing Fat...
