Set of 6 Murano tumblers, Tartan, 4 amethyst, 3 Blue, 4 greens, one red Ritorto

About the Item

Set of six Murano glass tumblers with an incredible sequence of 11 different color glass canes in hue sequence and bright colors. The technique is called Piera, one of the most difficult Murano glass way of creating a pattern of colors, where a mosaic of Murano rods is transformed into a three-dimensional creation. This workmanship was made famous by Giò Ponti in the Morandiane series and Dino Martens in his mezza filigrana creations. The particularity of this set lies in the subsequent transformation called “a ritorto” with the glass still warm. I thus obtained a beautiful optical play of superimposition that creates a net in transparency reminiscent of the Scottish Tartan. The colors chosen are yellow, aquamarine and amethyst bands in different shades separated by a single red glass rod. Once held in the hand, it becomes irresistible to rotate them against the light to rejoice in the fantastic play of colors as in a kaleidoscope. The very slight difference in height and diameter denote their highly crafted workmanship. Height 11.8 cm ca. Diameter 8.5 cm ca.
