Very Rare Moser Rosalin Sculpture Designed by Oldrich Lipa c1960

About the Item

Heading : Very Rare Moser Rosalin Sculpture Designed by Oldrich Lipa Date : c1960 Origin : Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia (now Czech republic). Marks : Unmarked but verified by the Moser Company Archivist Type : Lead glass, Rosalin colour Size : Height 9.5cm, maximum width 20cm Condition : Exemplary Restoration : None Weight : 2819 grams Additional Information : This very rare sculptural bowl was designed around 1960 and produced in very small quantities over a short period of time. It was produced in three sizes, of which this is the largest. The colour, similar to 'Topaz' is known as 'Rosalin.' The form is typical of designs at Moser at the time, being geometric and heavily blown, with thick walls and curving, polished areas. However, the sculptural form created by the combinationof a star or cog shape with a 'pebble' form raised on a foot is highly unusual. Although unmarked, this is not unusual for Moser pieces from this period, and this example has been authenticated by the Moser company archive as Moser product number 1619/10, designed by Oldrich Lípa around 1960. Oldrich Lípa (1929-2014) studied at the Technical School of Glassmaking in Novy Bor from 1948-50, and then the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under Professor Kaplicky from 1950-55. He joined the Moser glassworks in 1955 and worked there as a designer until 1981. His designs were ihncluded in the XI Milan Triennal in 1957, the Expo '58 World Exposition in Brussels in 1958, the XII Milan Triennal in 1959, the Expo '67 World Exposition in Montréal in 1967, and international festivals of glass including those held in Moscow, Corning USA, and Sao Paolo in 1959.

    By Moser
    Located in Tunbridge Wells, GB
Heading : Czech Mstisov or Moser Duha range bell vase Date : Designed 1964 by Vladimir Mika - this example from the late 60s Origin : Czechoslovakia Bowl Features : Striped ink blue and emerald glass cased in clear Type : Lead Size : 15.6cm height, 13.8cm diameter Condition :Excellent, no chips or cracsk Restoration : None Weight : 1601 grams Mark Hill Comments : The Duha range is typified by a 'rainbow' of horizontal bands in vibrant green, orange and blue, and heavily cased forms. Shapes are typically curving and organic, echoing the ductile, rounded nature of molten glass. Itw as introduced in 1960, with the first designsb being by Vlastimil Svoboda. The range was enlarged in 1964, with new shapes designed by Vladimir Mika, although Svoboda also lays claim to these. These additional shapes were the last to be introduced at the Mstisov glassowrkds before it was closed and production was moved to the Moser glassworks at Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). Ovoid vase forms were produced using the 'wet stick' process, where a wet stick was thrust into the molten body of the piece when it was being formed. The water in the stick would turn to steam and expand the body. It would then be finished. Quality was always high and examples with even and strong colours are now highly sought-after. The range was produced from 19609-64 at Mstisov and then from 1964 to around 1971 at Moser. It was featured in Czechoslovak Glass...

  • Moser Biomorphic Beryl Bowl by Vera Liskova c1950
    By Moser
    Located in Tunbridge Wells, GB
Heading : Biomoprhic Beryl Bowl by Vera Liskova Date : c1950 Origin : Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia Bowl Features : Turquoise glass, known as Beryl, with organically curving walls. Type : Lead Size : 12.2cm height, 35.5cm length, 20.5cm width Condition :Excellent, no chips or cracks Restoration : None Weight : 3936 grams This extremely rare large bowl was among the first designs Liskova produced fo rthe world-famous company of Moser, founded in 1857. The sculptural, organically curving walls recall pre-war designs produced during the late 1920s by Heinrich Hussmann, but are more rounded and flowing, recalling the liquid nature of molten glass. The vibrant, tonal green glass used is unique to Moser and is known as 'Beryl.' Introduced by Moser at an exhibition in Hradec Králové in 1925, it heralded the introduction of a series of different brightly coloured glass made using 'rare earths' such as a neodymium and praseodymium. Considered a hallmark colour, it is still used today. Other examples from this range can be found in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and in the Moser museum. Vera Lisková (1925-85) studied at the State School...
