About the Item

An Exceptionally Rare George II Antique Silver "Acorn" Nutmeg Grater Made in London circa 1750 by Samuel Meriton This very rare example is modelled to simulate an acorn and is decorated with reeded and beaded bands to simulate the shape of an acorn. The cover unscrews to reveal the removable steel grater and this piece is in excellent condition, with a good colour. The cover is very well marked with SM for Samuel Meriton and this is the manner in which acorn nutmeg graters are unusually marked, with the maker's mark only. Similar examples are contained within the famous Robert & Meredith Green Collection of Nutmeg Graters and these are illustrated in the catalogue of the collection. Again, this is one of only a handful of acorn nutmeg graters which we have offered over the years. Additional information: Length: 1.45 inches, 3.63cm. Diameter, at the widest point: 1.1 inches, 2.75cm
